Fitness Food Recipe: Homemade Halloween Candy

Halloween is rapidly approaching, and you know what that means: candy everywhere. If the temptation of diving into some of your son’s Halloween haul or the thought of post-Halloween candy sales is getting to you, try making your own candy at home. When you control the recipe, you can limit how much sugar goes into your candy and swap out certain ingredients for something a little healthier! Satisfy your sweet tooth with this recipe for homemade Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups! (Bonus: this recipe is vegan-friendly, sugar-free and gluten-free!) You’ll need:

  • A mini muffin tin

  • ½ cup of chilled, organic, unsalted almond butter

  • 1 tablespoon of ground chia seeds

  • 8 ounces of dairy free, unsweetened dark chocolate

  • 5 tablespoons of maple syrup

  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil

  • Fine grain sea salt

Directions:

  • Lightly grease a non-stick mini muffin pan

  • Melt dark chocolate and coconut oil in the microwave

  • Add 3 tablespoons of maple syrup and stir to combine

  • Pour half of the mixture into the muffin tin

  • Swirl the pan to get the chocolate up on the sides of each individual cup

  • Place the tin in the freezer and allow chocolate to set

  • Combine almond butter, chia seeds, 2 tablespoons of maple syrup and a pinch of seas salt

  • Add 1 teaspoon of almond butter mixture to each cup

  • Pour remaining chocolate over the top

  • Freeze for 30 minutes

  • Enjoy!
